MAD MAC

Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mad Mac and I am a member of the Glenpool Elementary School faculty. I teach classes in science (physical, earth, biology, etc.) to 3rd grade students. My main job is to perform wonderful experiments that might be too difficult (it makes me feel needed) or maybe a little to risky for students to try at school (I do some pretty daring stuff!)

They tell me this page on the Website is my very own and I can put anything I want here. Soooo, I am going to keep you posted on current science events, some pictures of me (you won't believe your eyes), interesting happenings in the night sky, places you might want to visit on the weekends (we live in a very interesting area here in northeastern Oklahoma), and (the best for last) experiments you can do at home that are fun! And, Mrs. McGowen will give you extra credit if you write them up and turn them in. Didn't do so good on that last test? Well, an extra A never hurt anybody!

What do you know about SNOT? I know its a funny word, but it is very important stuff! Did you know that you swallow about a quart of what is scientifically called mucus every day? It is so important to the workings of your body that a new batch is made about every 20 minutes! Snot keeps junk you breathe in from going to your lungs. It has a bacteria killing chemical in it to keep bad things from getting in where they are not wanted. Sooo, even if we sometimes think of it as "Yucky" it is really a very good thing.

HOW TO MAKE "SNOT"...

What you need:

1/8 cup of Borax (only Borax)

1 Liter warm water

2 spoons of Elmer's Glue (only Elmer's)

3 teaspoons water

Green food color (the only color for great snot)

Here's what to do:

Add the 1/8 cup borax to the Liter of warm water and shake, shake, shake! (put the lid on first)

The Borax won't dissolve

Put the Elmer's Glue (2 spoons) in a bowl, add the 3 teaspoons of water, and stir.

Add the gooey green color and put this mixture in a Ziploc Bag.

Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of the Borax and water (depends on how "snotty" you want your snot) and shake.

Now you have a bag full of snot. How Nice!

*Kids, Be sure to get your parent's permission to do this experiment.

Take a look at Mac's "Fun With Colors Page". Color programs and experiments can be found here!

Colors!

HAVE FUN!
