The state colors are green and white.

State nickname, "Sooners", was coined for name people who started the land runs before the"gun".

State rock is the Barite Rose Rock. There is a wonderful legend that goes with the rock about a young Indian couple. Everyone in Oklahoma loves to collect these rocks!

State bird is the beautiful Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher.

State flower is the Mistletoe. Some people have trouble with this because it is a parasite. But it is alot of fun at Christmas!

State tree is the Redbud. In the Spring, Oklahoma is beautiful with red flowers!

State animal is the majestic American Bison, or Buffalo.

State flower is Indian Blanket.

State fish is the White Bass, or Sand Bass.

State reptile is the collared lizard, or as we prefer to call him, the Mountain Boomer.

The name Oklahoma comes from the Native American, Choctaw language, "okla" meaning people, and "humma" meaning red. Oklahoma literally translated means,"The Red People".

Oklahoma has a Native American population of over 250,000 people. This is more than any other state.

Oklahoma has 43 colleges and universities.

We have a bipartsian government and support a bicameral legislature.

The highest point in the state is Black Mesa in Cimarron County (4,973 feet).

The lowest point in the state is east of Idabel in McCurtain County (287 feet).

Oklahoma has more man made lakes than any other state, supporting over one million acres of surface water. We have more shoreline than the Atlantic Coast and Gulf of Mexico, combined.

Oklahoma is the third largest gas producing state in the nation.

We rank fourth in the nation in wheat production, fourth in cattle production, fifth in the growing of pecans, sixth in the peanut division, and eighth in peaches (when we don't have a freeze).

Oklahoma has four mountain ranges Ouachitas, Arbuckles, Wichitas, and Kiamichis.

Oklahoma has forests over 24 per cent of its land.

We are bordered by six states: Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, KansasNew Mexico, and Colorado.

Oklahoma has 77 individual counties.

Oklahoma has a land area of 60,919 square miles and is 18th in size.
