My mother was born in 1913. When she was a young woman, probably in the mid 1930s, she said women with newly born illegitimate babies, would climb up to the top of the Ardmore water tower located at Cottonwood and North Commerce, and threw their newborns into the water. During those years the water tower had an open top. Since then a metal plate has been placed over it.
