An expansion for Sulphur's Mary E. Parker library is inching closer to reality.

As of April 22, $211,000 has been collected to pay for a 2,400-2,500 sq. ft. expansion of the 27-year-old facility, located at 500 West Broadway.

Chickasaw Regional Library Director Lynn McIntosh said plans for the expansion have changed since the plans were announced last year.

The original goal of $200,000 was to fund a 1,500 square foot expansion. Plans have changed since that time to almost double the size of the facility with the expansion, McIntosh said.

The total cost is estimated to be between $275,000 and $300,000 said McIntosh.

McIntosh said it made more sense to complete the expansion now, "Rather than coming back 10 years later and trying to do another expansion," she said.
