Murray County Commissioners awarded a bid for an addition to the county Expo Center to a local construction firm during the regular meeting Monday.

Acting on a recommendation from the Murray County Fairboard, Commissioners awarded the project, building a stage area onto the Expo Center to RFD Construction, Sulphur.

"We've seen the work they do on the job and we thought they would be best," said Murray County Fairboard member Richard Mize.

A major deciding factor, said Mize was the completion date RFD projected which is 30 days less than the other bidder, SRC Construction, Madill, which projected 150 days.

SRC Construction's bid was $2,393 less than RFD's bid, which totaled $156,760, which includes a bid for an awning and a large projection screen.

The project will be funded though a grant from the Southern Oklahoma Development Association (SODA).

Commissioner Bill Lance said the fairboard asked for references from the Madill construction company, but did not receive them until after last week's meeting.

If the project begins after the fair it should be complete before the spring Livestock Show, said OSU Extension Educator Wes Lee.
