Garner Guthrie, according to tradition of descendants, was related to the Rev. James Guthrie, of Stirling, Scotland, who was put to death by order of the Crown June 1, 1661. He came, from Ireland to America and settled in Virginia, where his son Charles and his presumptive son Nathaniel Guthrie served in the Revolutionary War.
From the document submitted to me by the above Yvonne Cameron:
Garner Guthrie was sometimes called Garrett.
